Mariya Nikolayeva Todorova (bolgarcha: Мария Николаева Тодорова) (1949-yil 5-yanvar, Sofiyada tugʻilgan) – Bolgariyalik tarixchi, oʻzining „Imagining of Balkans“ nomli taʼsirli kitobi bilan mashhur boʻlib, unda Edward Saidning „Orientalism“ asari tushunchasini Bolqonlarga tatbiq etgan. Tarixchi va siyosatchi Nikolay Todorovning qizi, Bolgariya Milliy Assambleyasi (1990-yil iyul – 1991-yil 2-oktyabr) spikeri va 1990-yil iyulda Bolgariya Prezidenti vazifasini bajaruvchi[1].

Professor Mariya Todorova hozirda Urbana-Champaigndagi Illinois universitetida Edward William & Jane Marr Gutgsell Endowed Professor Emerita hisoblanadi[2]. Bolqonning zamonaviy davr tarixiga ixtisoslashgan. Uning „Imagining the Balkans“ (1997) kitobi oʻn toʻrt tilga, jumladan, nemis, polyak, yunon, italyan, bolgar, turk va alban tillariga tarjima qilingan[3].

Todorovaning hozirgi tadqiqotlari millatchilik muammolari, xususan, Bolgariya va Bolqon yarim orolida millatchilik ramzi, milliy xotira va milliy qahramonlar bilan bogʻliq. 2007—2010-yillarda „Remembering Communism“ loyihasi boʻyicha xalqaro tadqiqot guruhiga rahbarlik qilgan[4].

Sofiya universitetida tarix va ingliz tilini oʻrgangan va 1977-yilda fan nomzodi ilmiy darajasini olgan. Mariya Todorova keyinchalik turli institutlarda, jumladan Istanbuldagi Sabanci universiteti va Florida universitetida (u yerda ham professor boʻlgan) adyunkt va tashrif buyuruvchi professor boʻlgan. 2000-yilda nufuzli John Simon Guggenheim stipendiyasi bilan taqdirlangan[5]. 2006-yilda Mariya Todorova Italiyaning Florensiya shahridagi Yevropa universiteti institutining Faxriy doktori ilmiy darajasiga sazovor boʻlgan[6]. 2022-yilda Mariya Todorova Amerika sanʼat va fanlar akademiyasiga qabul qilingan[7]. Todorova, shuningdek, Janubi-Sharqiy Yevropaning bugungi kundagi eng yirik tarixchisi ekanligi, sohadagi xizmati va mavqei sababli Slavyan, Sharqiy Yevropa va Yevroosiyo tadqiqotlari assotsiatsiyasi (ASEEES) tomonidan 2022-yilda „Slavyan, Sharqiy Yevropa va Yevroosiyo tadqiqotlariga qoʻshgan hissasi“ mukofotini qoʻlga kiritgan[8].

Todorova Bolqon tarixiga oid ishlari bilan mashhur. Uning „Imagining the Balkans“ asari Gʻarb madaniyati ichidagi mintaqaning nomuvofiq (lekin odatda salbiy) imidjiga, shuningdek, madaniy havolalar paradokslariga va uning taxminlariga bagʻishlangan. Asarda Edward Saidning Orientalism va Milica Bakić-Haydenning „Nesting Balkanisms“ asariga oʻxshash[9] Bolqonizm yoki Uyalovchi Balqonizm nazariyasini ishlab chiqadi.
