Mukofot 1942-yilda Jane Oliver tomonidan 1940-yil 5-avgustda Royal Air Force (Qirollik havo kuchlari)da bombardimonchi uchuvchi boʻlib xizmat qilayotganda halok boʻlgan yosh yozuvchi John Llewellyn Rhys turmush oʻrtogʻining xotirasiga atab asos solingan.

1987-yildan 2003-yilgacha mukofot Mail on Sunday tomonidan moliyalashtirilgan. Gazeta 2002-yilda Mary Lavenga mukofot berilganidan keyin oʻz faoliyatini 2003-yilda toʻxtatgan.
