Object history

Die Muschel ist dem Wappen der Freiherren von Eyb entnommen, die in ihrem Wappen drei Muscheln führten. Sebastian von Eyb erwarb 1518 das Schloss im Ort. Die Lutherrose weist auf die große Bedeutung von Neuendettelsau für die Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche in Bayern. Hier sind die Diakonissen- und Missionsanstalt und die theologische Augustana-Hochschule der Bayerischen Landeskirche untergebracht. Wilhelm Löhe wurde 1837 Ortspfarrer in Neuendettelsau. Er gründete 1846 die Missionsanstalt, die sich vor allem um die deutsch-lutherischen Auswanderer nach Nordamerika und die Indianermission kümmern sollte. Mit dem von Löhe 1854 gegründeten Diakonischen Werk entwickelte sich Neuendettelsau zum Zentrum der Diakonie. 1947 wurden in Neuendettelsau die Augustana-Hochschule als Fachakademie für Religionspädagogen und ein Pfarrseminar für Spätberufene eingerichtet.
