Deutsch: Der Stadt ist mit Urkunde des Regierungspräsidenten vom 25.10.1972 das Recht zur Führung eines Wappens verliehen worden. „In schwarz eine silberne (weiße) Leiste, begleitet oben von vier sechsstrahligen silbernen (weißen) Sternen - unten von einem silbernen (weißen) Schlegel, der von einem gleichfarbigen Eisen gekreuzt wird.“ Die Sterne stehen für die vier ehemaligen Gemeinden Alt-Hückelhoven, Ratheim, Hilfarth und Kleingladbach. Sterne wurden gewählt, weil im Wappen der Herren Ollmissen von Haus Hückelhoven ein sechszackiger silberner Stern gezeigt wird. Hammer und Schlägel stehen für den Steinkohlenbergbau in der Stadt. Der Querbalken stammt aus dem Wappen des Dynastengeschlechts derer von Hückelhoven.
English: „The bar is taken from the arms of the Lords of Hückelhoven, which used a silver bar on a red shield. The stars represented the four villages in 1938 and this has not been changed in 1972. The stars are taken from the arms of the Olmissen family, that a single silver star on a black filed used as arms. This family who owned two estates in the town. The tools indicate the importance of mining for the town in 1938.“
