Object history

Der Abtsstab weist auf die Abtei Brauweiler (b. Köln) hin. Durch eine Schenkung der Polenkönigin Richeza, Tochter des Pfalzgrafen Ezzo und Enkelin Kaiser Otoos II., die einige Jahre im benachbarten Klotten gelebt haben soll, erhielt diese Abtei im Jahre 1051 Güter u.a. auch in Gevenich. Die drei Ähren deuten auf die frühe ländliche Besiedelung, die keltorömische Ortsgründung und die heutige Landwirtschaft.

Der Hirschkopf mit dem Kreuz ist das Attribut des hl. Hubertus, des Kirchenpatrons der Pfarrgemeinde von 1716 bis heute, dem auch ein eigener Altar in der Pfarrkirche gewidmet ist.
