Über den Zinnen erhebt sich vor den drei Türmen ein blauer lüneburgischer Löwe in kampfbereiter Stellung, von dem der Kopf, der Rücken, der erhobene Schweif und die beiden Vorderpranken sichtbar sind.“

Deutsch: Das Wappen ist abgeleitet von einem Siegel aus dem 14. Jahrhundert. Die Torburg symbolisiert die Stadt als solche. Der : Löwe steht für die früheren Landesherren der Fürsten von Lüneburg.
English: The arms is derived from a seal of the 14th century. They show the lion of Lüneburg to which the town belonged till 1705. The fortified gate symbolises the town as such.
