Deutsch: Der Stadt Mechernich ist mit Urkunde des Regierungspräsidenten in Köln vom 9.02.1973 die Genehmigung zur Führung eines Wappens, eines Siegels, und einer Flagge erteilt worden. „Das Wappen zeigt in der oberen Hälfte auf goldenem (gelbem) Grund einen rotbezungten und bewehrten schwarzen Löwen, belegt mit einem durchgehenden fünflätzigen roten Turnierkragen und im unteren Felde auf blauem Grund zwei gekreuzte silberne (weiße) Hämmer.“ Das Wappen zeigt im oberen Teil den schwarzen Löwen mit dem roten Turnierkragen der Grafen von Blankenheim, die über 500 Jahre über Mechernich geherrscht haben. Im unteren Teil weisen Schlägel und Eisen auf den Bergbau in der Region hin.

English: „The arms were granted in 1935 and confirmed on February 9, 1973. The arms show in the upper part the lion of Blankenheim and in th elower miner's tools. The Lords of Blankenheim ruled the area in the Middle Ages, whereas the tools symbolise the importance of mining in the area.“
